Substitute Teaching!

Many times throughout my first year in Education I was told that if I ever got the chance to sub, I should take it. Well, that opportunity came after my second round of student teaching! I have been given the opportunity to sub for the remainder of the 2013/2014 school year at the school where I completed my placement.

Subbing has been great! It has been a particularly good experience because I know a good majority of the students already and they respect me as a teacher. Also, because I spent almost two months in the classroom in which I am subbing, I am able to actually teach lessons rather than just supervise work periods. The staff and teachers at the school also all know me and so it has been an easy transition going from student teacher to substitute teacher.

I completely understand why so many retired teachers decide to continue subbing. It has the feel of being a teacher, but the planning and the marking (which we all know takes up so much of a teacher's time and energy) is left up to the actual classroom teacher!
